Weekly Recap 2/20

Weekly Athletic  Recap

Below is our weekly recap for the week of February 20th! As hard as it is to believe the winter season is slowly winding down. We look forward to the Spring season! We still have PCL playoffs for our Bowlers, Swimmers and then the Districts for our wrestlers and then PIAA playoffs for the basketball team but a lot of the younger teams have finished up! It was a great winter!

Congrats to our Athlete of the Week - Paddy Barry & Thomas Dinh

MS Blue Basketball

The Devon Prep 6th grade team took on St. Norbert’s in the first round of the playoffs. In the first half it was a close battle, which ended in a tie at half time. Evan Martin ‘29, Will Auckett-Stowe ‘29, and Brian Daniels ‘29 had some great shots and defense throughout the game. Andrew Stauffer was dominant off the boards while recording several rebounds. In the second half,  St. Norbert’s pulled away, and the tide struggled to keep it close but played hard until the finishing seconds!

MS White Basketball

Playoffs for the Devon Prep White team didn’t go the way we hoped. After getting down big early 24-8 at the half, Devon Prep tried to mount a comeback but lost 32-23.  David Vickers ‘27 sparked the 2nd half comeback with inspired defense, a bucket and an assist. David ended with 6 pts as did Gustav Najdek ‘27. Grant Napoletano ‘27 had 1 pt but did yeoman’s work on the boards with at least 7 rebs. Andrew Bouchard ‘27 helped on the boards and contributed 3 pts. John Veith ‘28, Teddy Celentano ‘28, Dean Huey ‘28, and Matt McHugh ‘28 all got in the scoring column. Good season for the DP White Team, very proud of the players and the progress they made!

Wrestling

February 18th vs. PCL Individual Championships

The Devon Prep Tide got their first taste of league finales as they attended the PCL Individual Championships at LaSalle on Saturday. The team competed against some tough PCL competition and unfortunately they didn’t come home with any hardware. Sam Kleiner ‘25, Shane Dugan ‘25, Cooper Watson ‘23, and Michael Degeorge ‘25 all competed and fought hard in each of their matches!

Indoor Track

Congrats to Pat Rullo ‘24 on earning Third Team ALL PCL this season!

Bowling

The Tide looked to finish strong in their final PCL regular season match versus Archbishop Wood. The squad started hot and secured a 4-0 sweep over Archbishop Wood. There were strong performances across the board. Highlights include: Bradley Hart '26 with a 201 game, Cole Wingerd '25 with games of 221, 206, and 189 for a 616 series, and Giorgio Cipolloni '26 with games of 258, 242, and 224 for a 724 series. The team also set a new school record for team high series with games of 972, 953, and 871 for a 2796 series. The Tide looks to carry this momentum into the PCL playoffs next week! The Tide took on former Bicentennial League foe Holy Ghost Prep in a non league match up. Ghost defeated Devon 4-0. The squad took advantage of the final regular season match to fine tune themselves as they prepare for PCL playoffs next week. Highlights from the match include: Christian Ottesen '23 with a 190 game, Bradley Hart '26 with a 187 game, Gavin Ola' 25 with games of 204 and 202, and Giorgio Cipolloni '26 with games of 217 and 228. The team rolled games of 816, 832, and 929 for a solid 2577 series.

Squash

Devon Middle School and Underclassman versus Shipley this past Thursday. Shipley came out on top, but for some of our middle schoolers it was their first time on the court! There were great attitudes and sportsmanship all around. Looking forward to our next High School match versus Germantown Friends School on Tuesday!
