Congrats to our Athlete of the Week - Shane Dugan
MS Gold Basketball
On December 14th, the MS Gold team played St. Francis and won 60-17. Blaise DeSanto ‘27 led the team with 18 points and 3 threes. Liam Alison contributed going 2 for 3 from three. Brayden Smith ‘27 led the team with hustle plays. Everyone was able to score as well as get an assist. The team was back in action on December 17th vs. St. Margaret and won 56-30. The Tide had a 56-30 victory over Saint Margaret. Hunter Mishock ‘27 led scoring with 17 points. Brayden Smith ‘27 and Caleb Tesfaye ‘28 both had double digit scoring. The team did a great job of boxing out to limit their opponents second chance points. Their week concluded on December 18th vs. OMGC and they won 45-41. The Tide had a close 45-41 victory over OMGC. Blaise DeSanto ‘27 led the team in scoring with 19 points. We ended the first quarter down 16 points. Devon was able to fight through adversity sticking together to get the win. Shawn Wheeler ‘27 and Hunter Mishock ‘27each collect a charge in the game.
MS White Basketball
On December 14th the White team played St. Francis and lost 27-22. Tonight's midweek matchup for the Devon Prep White team was against a feisty St. Francis team which ended with a 27 - 22 loss. Good floor leadership shown from Charlie Kleiner ‘28, David Vickers ‘27, and Gustav Najdek ‘27. Matt McHugh ‘28 led the team in scoring with 11 points and strong defense. Armen Semerjian ‘27 chipped in with 5 pts and was solid on the boards as was Teddy Marvin ‘27. David Vickers, Teddy Celentaro ‘28, and Andrew Bouchard ‘27 got in the scoring column with 2 pts each. They were back in action on December 17th vs. St. Margaret (Blue) and won 34-30! Devon Prep White basketball team got a solid 34 - 30 win vs. St Margaret’s on Saturday. Leading the way was Teddy Marvin ‘27 with 11, Matt McHugh ‘28 with 6, Gustav Najdek ‘27, and David Vickers ‘27 with 5 each. Armen Semerjian ‘27 with 4 and John Sullivan ‘28 with 3 rounded out the scoring. Teddy, Armen, and Andrew Bouchard ‘27 dominated the glass throughout the game.
MS Blue Basketball
The MS Blue team played St Denis on December 17th and came up a little short in the scoring column, 23-12. Devon’s sixth grade team proved unable to complete their furious comeback as they bowed out to St. Denis, 12 - 23. Jackson Fisher ‘29 and Nate Ficoturo ‘29 displayed deft passing against the zone. Newcomer Will Auckett-Stowe ‘29 valiantly attacked the basket time after time. However, St. Denis’ trapping defense proved too much for the Tide. The team enjoyed a well-deserved hiatus before squaring off against Holy Child on January 7.
High School Basketball
The Freshman Basketball continued their excellent start to the season on December 12th vs. Archbishop Carroll! They won 45-28! The kids set the tone defensively by jumping out to a 10-4 lead. For the next 2 quarters it was back forth with both teams scoring on multiple possessions. I’m the 4th quarter we began to pull away with a few transition points taking the lead up to 18. Jayden Allen Bates ‘26 lead us in scoring with 12pts with Braeden Fisher ‘26, Eric White ‘26, and Christian O’Donnell ‘26 contributed with 4 pts. The team was back in action on December 14th Freshman vs. Holy Ghost Prep and won 35-29! The game started out very slow with each team struggling to score the ball. The defensive pressure from Holy Ghost slowed us down a bit and they held us to 8 points in the first quarter. The second quarter started out a lil better with Jayden Allan Bates ‘26 and Owen Raymond ‘26 knocking down a few tough shots. In the 3rd quarter we began to pull away, pushing the lead to 10 going into the 4th quarter. Holy Ghost cut the lead to 2 points with 3 min left to go in the game. We eventually made several great plays that ultimately secured us the win. Our scoring came from the collective group of Jayden Allan Bates ‘26 - 8 points, Brayden Fisher ‘26 - 6 points, Owen Raymond ‘26 - 8 points and Eric White ‘26 - 7 points. Their week concluded on December 16th vs. Salesianum and they won again 48-40. Devon Prep secured another victory with a 48-40 win over Salllies pushing their record to 5-0 on the young season. During the tightly contested game, Devon found themselves down 3 points entering the 4th quarter. Jayden Allan Bates ‘26 had another strong performance leading all scorers with 29 points.
The JV Basketball team had one game last week on December 16th vs. Salesianum and they won 51-44. The JV team defeated Salesianum 51-44 to move onto 2-0 on the young season. Greg Perullo ‘24 led the team in scoring. Jabar Oakes ‘24 did a phenomenal job running the point. Brian Kamara ‘24, Zach Orchard 24’ and Mike Pergolis ‘25 provided toughness boxing out, getting rebounds and taking care of the basketball while knocking down timely shots
The varsity basketball team had one game last week as well. They played in the Post-n-Pivot Reindeer games showcase on December 18th Varsity vs. a very powerful First Love Christian Academy team from Western PA. The team played very unselfish basketball and won 69-56. the team was led by game MVP Ty Mishock '24 who had 16 points and 8 assists. The team continues to grow and develop as they prepare for PCL play in January. The team is back in action this Thursday as they travel to Rutgers Prep.
Wrestling
On December 14th the wrestling team played Archbishop Carroll and won 48-30. The Tide wrestling team officially captured their first team dual meet and PCL victory in school history. The team won with the score of 48-30 over Archbishop Carroll. The match was full of energy and excitement with a packed house in the West gym at Archbishop Carroll with spectators from both teams. The team came out onto the mat with lots of enthusiasm as they received big pins from Shane Dugan ‘25, Finlay Manifold ‘26, Cooper Watson ‘23, and Michael Degeorge ‘25. Those who received victories as well were Michael Cline-Thomas ‘26, Jason Kleiner ‘26, Chris Rohner ‘25, and Dylan Kenneson ‘25. The Tide have come a long way since the beginning of the season and continues to improve each day!
Our Ice Hockey team also played Archbishop Carroll this week and unfortunalty fell a little short losing 5-3. Devon Prep Frozen Tide fell to Archbishop Carroll/Pope John Paul in a close matchup 5-3 on Friday night. Star sophomore James Gabriele ‘25 led the way, scoring all three Tide goals, and Grant Gale ‘26 made over 40 saves for the fifth game in a row. Freshman Tommy Sack ‘26 played in his first varsity game and senior captain Nolan Hughes ‘23 had a particularly strong game playing primarily as a defenseman for the first time all season
Bowling
On December 13th Vour bowling team played Conwell Egan and lost 4-0. The Tide faced a tough matchup away versus Conwell Egan. Unfortunately for the Tide, they came up short, getting swept by Conwell Egan. Although the squad did not come out with a win, Giorgio Cipolloni '26 had an impressive day! He set two new school records. In his third game, Cipolloni fired a 265 game just one frame off of perfection! He also compiled games of 224, 204, and 265 to set the record for high series with a 693! they were back in action on December 15th vs. Archbishop Carroll and came up a little short losing 3-1. The Tide made a trip on a snowy and rainy Wednesday to take on Archbishop Carroll at Wynnewood Lanes. After a tough game one loss, the Tide bounced back to take game two but fell short in games three and four. Although it was a tough day on the lanes, the Tide secured a season series victory over Carroll 5-3. Freshman Giorgio Cipolloni '26 continued his hot start firing a 632 series with a high game of 245. The squad will look to bounce back after the Christmas break!
