Below is our weekly recap for the first full week of the winter season! It is going to be a great winter!

Congrats to our Athlete of the Week - Cooper Fairlamb '27

Basketball

Over Thanksgiving weekend our MS Gold team played in the MDP Turkey Day tournament. On November 25th our MS Gold team kicked off their season vs MDP. Won 82-27. Ryan Wheeler ‘28 was unconscious from three leading the team with 4 of the 8 three pointers made by the team. Defensively the team protected the paint collectively. For the first time playing in live competition, the boys share the ball with a lot of trust. On November 26th the MS Gold team played St. Katherine and won 65-8. Shawn Wheeler ‘27 facilitated the team flawlessly with the game high of 5 assists and 5 steals. Hunter Mishock ‘27 had a game high of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Bradyen Smith ‘27 had 5 steals along with 8 rebounds. Cooper Fairlamb ‘27 led the team with 5 deflections keeping his hands active. The boys did a great job with switching defenses quickly and sharing the ball. On November 27th they played  IHM and won 59-33. Hunter Mishock ‘27 led the team in scoring and rebounds with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Brayden Smith ‘27 and Cooper Fairlamb ‘27 chipped in with 7 rebounds each. Liam Ferrise ‘27 had the game high assists with 3. The boys did a great job with running the plays and communicating. On November 27th in the championship game they played  SCJN and loss 49-43. Aman Samdani ‘27, Blaise DeSanto ‘27, Brayden Smith ‘27, and Hunter Mishock ‘27 led the team with 3 hustle plays each. Scoring and assists were led by Cooper Fairlamb ‘27 with 19 points and 3 assists. The boys did a great job sticking together as a family, not giving up, and being engaged, especially the bench.

The team kicked off league play on December 3rd vs. Annunciation. They won 47-36 . We controlled the game from the jump. Cooper Fairlamb ‘27 was able to lead the way with 19 points and 3 threes while being 100% from the free throw line. The Tide did a great job with passing as well as having the whole team engaged.  We were right back at it on December 4th vs. SCJN again. This time we won, 34 - 31. The Tide trailed the entire game until Blaise DeSanto ‘27 hit the game tying jump shot to send the team into overtime. Blaise also stepped up defensively by making their best player frustrated and setting the tone to lead to the 3 point victory. Devon Prep allowed SJCN to only score 6 points in the second half and overtime.

The varsity high school team kicked off their season this past weekend in Pittsburg at the North Catholic Tip Off. December 3rd. we played the host,  North Catholic HS and won 77 - 67. The team was led in scoring by Lucas Orchard '23 with 27 points and Jacen Holloway '23 with 20. Zane Conlon '25 led the team with 8 rebounds and Ty Mishock '24 had 5 assists.  The following day the team played Imani Christian Academy, who is one of the top teams in the state and came away with a hard fought 58-53 victory. The team was led by Ben Costello '24 who set a school record for charges taken in a game. The team is back in action Tuesday night at 7:00, at home, vs Constitution. We will honor the state championship team from last year.

Ice Hockey

On November 18th the ice hockey team played LaSalle and lost 6-2. The Tide went up against LaSalle on Friday night, where they lost 6-2. The team was down 5-2 and had a breakaway but just not enough bodies to come all the way back. Grant Gale ‘26 had over 50 saves in goal for the Tide. Jesse Xiong ‘26 scored the Tides only two goals. Senior Captain, Nolan Hughes ‘23 finally got to suit up for his first varsity game in a Devon Prep uniform since missing the first two games of the season. On November 30th the team was back in action vs the Hun School and lost 11-0 Coach Fabs quoted “They were really good. Not much to say, man.” It was a tough game against a very good team. On , December 2nd the team played EA and won 7-6. On Friday afternoon, in front of a contingent of vociferous DP students, the DP hockey team rallied for a 7-6 come-from-behind victory against Episcopal Academy. After working to create a turnover in the offensive end, star sophomore James Gabriele ‘25 took a shot towards the net that Cristiano Romeo ‘24 was able to deflect past the goalie to complete an unlikely comeback.  Nolan Hughes ‘23, Frankie Hartman ‘25 and Brendan Bachman ‘25 led a defense that withstood a ridiculous flurry of shots at the end of the game.  Grant Gale ‘26 and Trey Seiders ‘24 combined in net for the DP win.

Bowling

On November 29th our bowling team played Bonner and won 4-0. The Tide started the year strong with a sweep of Bonner in the first match of the season. After a convincing game one win, the team faced a much closer test in game two but managed a close 38 pin victory. Game three the script completely flipped. Bonner started off strong taking an 80 pin lead into the final two frames. Although the Tide faced a taunting deficit, they did not give up. The team fired off thirteen strikes in the final two frames to secure the sweep! The sweep came after clutch shots down the stretch from sophomores Cole Wingerd ‘25 and Wyatt Theissen ‘25. Strong overall performances from sophomore Gavin Ola ‘25 and senior Christian Ottesen ‘23 kept the Tide rolling. The high score and series of the match came from freshman Giorgio Cipolloni ‘26 with a 205 game and 557 series!
