Soccer
On October 4th our Varsity team traveled to St. Joe’s Prep. We played at Penn Park in West Philly under the lights. Unfortunately we lost 7-0. It was a tail of two halves. We had an excellent first half and we broke down in the second half. We know what went wrong and we will fix it and be prepared for our game against Bonner on Friday. On October 7th the varsity team played at Bonner. We won 3-0. We played well and dominated the game. We are happy to get the win and snap the bad form we’ve been in lately. It was a great overall team performance and a great individual performance from Joshua Rick ‘26 who had 2 goals and 1 assists. We are also happy to see Connor Savage ‘24 back on the score sheet and Matt Pascale ‘25 combining with Joshua Rick to assist him on his goal as these are things we’ve been working on in practice. Braeden Fisher ‘26 played well in net and received the shutout. We are back to work on Monday as we prepare for Archbishop Carroll on Tuesday. This game we’ll also be recognizing the seniors on their accomplishments throughout their careers playing soccer for Devon Prep. On October 5th our MS soccer team played St. Simon & Jude. We won 3-1. The team remains dominant as they continue to finish their opportunities by putting the ball in the back of the net with a 3-1 victory over St. Simon & Jude. The defensive line (Chase Chapman ‘27, Charlie Kleiner ‘28, Darian Williams ‘27, David Vickers ‘27, Matteo Romeo ‘27) and goalie, Jackson Fisher ‘29 played fantastic by fighting off their offensive opponents the entire game. The Tide has improved to 6-1-2 overall. Goals were provided by Gustav Najdek ‘27, Nico Del Prim ‘27, and Conor Hamilton ‘28.
Golf
On October 3rd we were scheduled to play Radnor but unfortunately the match was canceled due to weather. We were still able to honor our seniors at the Philadelphia CC. Congrats to our Senior Golfers- Paddy Barry, Tyler Pingitore, Jack Dente, PJ Duffy and Kidder Urban. On October 5th we played in the PCL Championships. The team finished in first place in AA. Our team also ended up placing third overall. Congrats to Nick Ciocca ‘24 for leading the way as he has all year. Nick started his round off with a tee shot into the fescue. After hitting a great approach shot just short of the green, Nick chipped in for a birdie that surely set the tone for the rest of his round. Nick entered this year’s PCL Championship as the defending champion. He finished the day as the back-to-back champion, firing a low round of the day 69 (-1). Impressive tournament scoring, Nick! Both Nick and John (Curran) ‘25 finished the tournament as All Catholic League players. That means they both finished in the top of the league for regular season and the PCL Championship, not an easy feat. Congrats to you both! Good luck to the team this week in the District 12 championship and the PIAA Sub- Regional
Cross Country
On October 5th Varsity team ran at Belmont in the PCL Meet #3. We finally saw the rain stop (for the most part) and the squad turned out some great performances. Pat Rullo ‘24 ran 18:04 to finish 2nd in our race and 8th overall, despite feeling a bit under the weather. Pierce Rohlfing ‘25 finished with a time of 20:15, which is good for 49th place and a course PR by 2 seconds. Next, Daniel Mongiello ‘25 had a big race where he PR’d by over 20 seconds to run 23:41 and place 109th. And then finishing strong, we had Max Collins ‘24 run a 24:38 for a course PR and 117th place. Awesome work squad!
On October 9th our MS XC team ran in the CYO Meet @ Belmont. Despite missing a few runners, the Devon Prep Middle School Cross Country team had one of its best showings of the season so far. In the 3K, Trevor Heebner-Elliott (13:58), Freddy Tucker (17:50), Adriel Gonsalves (20:05), and Oliver Parenteau (22:48) all ran personal record times. Heebner-Elliott scored his first top 25 finish. The team is back in action next Sunday morning (10/16) at the Shipley Gator Invitational Meet.
