Weekly Round up 9/5

Hope that everyone has had a great Labor Day weekend!

Last week our varsity soccer team had a scrimmage vs Episcopal and  their first regular season game vs Academy of the New Church.  According to Coach Dempster "The Episcopal game was what the boys needed so we can fully understand what we need to work on. We showed mental toughness by giving our all until the final whistle and not letting the score determine our attitude and effort throughout the game. EA is a great team and we will use this game as a learning experience to prepare use for the Catholic league." Key takeaway from this game are: Our midfielder, Nick Walton '24 continuing his fine form by providing another assist for the second game in a row and our striker Connor Savage '24 getting his first goal of the season with more to come. Our first game of the season was against  Academy of the New Church. The varsity team lost lost 3-1. It was a very physical game today. We improved throughout the game and it showed as we grabbed a goal towards (Zach Sebra '25, unassisted) the end of the game. We’ll continue to learn from each game and improve each day as we prepare for our first PCL game.

Our golf team continued their hot play. On August 29th the team defeated Roman Catholic, 227-277 the scores for the match were: Ciocca 35, Curran 35, Urban 36, Duffy 39, Dente 41, *Pullano 43 (Practice Round), Lewis 45, Pingitore 45. the shot of the day: PJ Duffy earned this with his great approach shot onto the 9th green (par 5). He just missed his eagle putt but converted the tap-in birdie. The round of the day was a tie between Curran and Ciocca. They were the first twosome out and both posted a 35 (1 over). Our second match of the week was vs. Archbishop Wood & Conwell Egan We won this match:Devon - 227, Wood - 251, Conwell Egan - 310. Scores were: Curran 33 (-1), Ciocca 34, Urban 38, DiLella 38, *Pullano 39 (Practice Round), Dente 41, Pingitore 41, *Barry 44 (Practice Round), Duffy 47, Lewis 47. the shots of the day were: Both Curran and Dente drove the par 4 (#7). Both played the hole under par. The only thing better than that drive for Curran was that he made the eagle putt from about 15-20 feet away. Dente made it an easy two putt from about 50+ feet away. The round of the day was shot by Curran, congrats again on steadily plotting your way around the course. He just missed a birdie putt on 9 that would’ve put him -4 through the final 4 holes. Curran bounced back from a double bogey earlier in the round, and he had his B swing/game today.  Our last match of the week was vs. Cardinal O’Hara & Little Flower. We won both of those match with scores Devon - 230, O’Hara - 258, Little Flower - 290 Our scores were : Urban 34 (-1), Curran 34 (-1, eagle and two birdies), Ciocca 37, Dente 39, DiLella 42, *Lewis 43 (back 9), Duffy 44, *Barry 45 (back 9), Pullano 46, Pingitore 53 , The shot/hole of the day was Curran played #2 (Par 5) perfectly with a great eagle! Congrats again on having an eagle on back-to-back rounds! The round of the day went to Kidder and Curran both earned this award today. They both played steady golf and finished at -1 for the match. Curran had an eagle and two birdies—could’ve been a really low day. Congrats to the team on an undefeated week. Congrats also to John Curran who earned the Devon Prep Athlete of the Week last week!

We are very excited to watch our cross country team kick off this week as they travel to Kutztown University on Saturday for their first race of the season.

Reminder, that all MS sports will start practicing this week. Please reach out to the coach if you were not at the meeting last week.
