Weekly Round Up 9/11

Congrats to Brady Smith who earned our Athlete of the Week this week!  The middle school soccer team kicked off their season this week. The team showed up strong for their first game of the year vs. St. Simon & Jude! The team came up with 2-0 shut out win. Goals were provided by Conor Hamilton ‘28 and Gustav Nadjek ‘27, along with a clean sheet by Ryker Bergeman ‘28. The varsity team continued to build as well.  On September 9th the team played Lansdale Catholic and lost 2-1. Josh Rick ‘26 with the goal, assisted by Evan Tissue ‘23. It was a tough game for the Tide  with our goalie, Jack Ferry ‘23  getting hurt in the first 10 minutes but, all the players stepped up to give it their all with a man of the match performance from Christian Ottesen ‘23.  The Jv team had a lot of opportunities as well but came up short in the game. Great effort by the team. On September 10th the team traveled to Shipley and lost 5-1. Josh Rick ‘26 with the goal, assisted by Nick Walton ‘24. Another stellar performance from Christian Ottesen ‘23 in goal and another one in the back of the net by Josh Rick. The JV team played exceptionally hard but came up short again as well. Both teams continue to improve.

Our golf team only had one match last week.  On September 7th vs. St. Joe’s Prep / LaSalle / Holy Ghost Prep / Malvern Prep ( Union League Torresdale Invitational) The scores were: Devon Prep: 188 , Holy Ghost Prep: 211 (DP Won), St. Joe’s Prep: 191 (DP Won), La Salle:180 (DP Lost) and Malvern Prep: 183 (DP Lost). Nick Ciocca ‘24, shot the lowest round of the day with a score of 32. Nick Ciocca played steady and could’ve probably shot a 30 in the round if all putts fell. Impressive golf, Nick! Great job leading the way. Shot of the day goes to Jack Dente. Jack was on a hole, under a tree, and managed to hit a great wedge into the green to 12 feet. He just barely missed the putt, but had an easy tap-in par. Ciocca 32 (lowest score in overall tourney), Curran 36, DiLella 38, Dente 38, Urban 44, Duffy 44, Barry 46, Pingitore 47.

Our cross country team kicked off their season yesterday. There were a lot of personal bests out there on the course for our team. Devon XC had a great day at the PTXC invitational in Kutztown. Some highlights from the varsity race include a PR from Pierce Rohlfing, who ran 20:16, and was our first finisher, as well as a fantastic debut from Jake Murphy, who ran 21:02 in his debut XC race. The JV athletes also ran well. Their first finisher who was Wyatt Thiessen, has been predicting a PR all week. He ended up running 24:24 for a 33 second PR.
